2004 Porsche Boxster IMS Replacement

This 2004 Porsche Boxster S is in for IMS bearing replacement.                   The IMS is the Achilles heel of 996 and 997 911s (excluding Turbo models) as well as all 986 and 987 Boxsters.  IMS stands for intermediate shaft. This geared shaft basically converts crankshaft motion to camshaft motion on either side of the engine. The IMS bearing supports the intermediate shaft and if it fails it can throw your cam timing which will cause extensive engine damage. This failure can happen at any mileage, with no warning. Your best option if you own a Porsche from the affected years would be to have the IMS bearing upgraded to avoid an engine rebuild or replacement. While we’re in there, we often recommend a clutch replacement as well (if it’s at or below 50% or starting to fray) since the labor is nearly the same.   Written by Kasey Scahall

  1973 Meyers Manx These street legal dune buggies were first invented to race in California in the 1960s. Powered by an air-cooled Beetle engine and in a lightweight fiberglass body,they were a ton of fun to rip around in. Some of you may remember the cartoon Speed Buggy- that was based on this little roadster! The manufacturer, owned by an engineer (and surfer!) Bruce Meyers, dominated dune racing in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s with the original model winning the first Mexican [Baja] 1000 in 1967. This one is in for maintenance and some slight adjustments to the transmission and valves. We will also be doing a carburetor rebuild and tune to remedy a backfire our client was experiencing.
